What post-surgical care covers
Post-surgical care is short-term, non-medical support during the recovery weeks after an operation or hospital stay: help getting around safely, managing the household, keeping appointments, and following discharge instructions so a setback does not send your loved one back to the hospital. It bridges the vulnerable gap between discharge and being fully back on their feet.
The days right after surgery are when small problems become big ones: a missed medication, a fall reaching for something, a wound that is not kept clean and dry. Is post-surgical care the same as home health nursing?
No. We provide non-medical recovery support: mobility help, personal care, meals, transportation to follow-ups, and reminders. Skilled tasks like wound care or physical therapy come from a home health nurse or therapist; we complement them and can work alongside them.
Can you help right at hospital discharge?
Yes, and it is one of our most common requests. Tell us the discharge date and we will aim to have a caregiver in place the day your loved one comes home so the transition is safe.
How long does post-surgical care usually last?
It is flexible, often a couple of weeks to a couple of months, tapering as strength returns. There is no long-term commitment; we scale hours down as your loved one recovers.
Can caregivers drive to follow-up appointments?
Yes. Transportation to post-op visits, physical therapy, and the pharmacy is a core part of recovery support.
Does insurance cover this?
Standard Medicare covers skilled home health, not non-medical recovery help, which is usually private-pay. Long-term care insurance and VA benefits may apply, and we are glad to help you sort out what fits.
